In Apex Legends with High settings, playing while docked the FPS hovered between 110-115. With Fortnite set to Epic, I saw 100-120 frames-per-second (FPS) with the keyboard docked, and 120-130 FPS with it undocked - roughly a 10% performance boost. I didn't bounce around between the various overclocking modes, assuming that's how it will mostly be used. I played each game with the keyboard docked, in standard mode, as well as undocked with overclocking enabled. Not only is the performance boost evident in benchmarks, but the speed boost was evident in every game I played during testing. Because of that, the Helios 700's performance is on par with the MSI GS65 Stealth and its RTX 2080 with Max-Q.Īs you can see, the Helios 700 easily outperforms the Alienware m15 R2, and even beats out the GS65, nearly across the board.

Note that Acer didn't use the Max-Q tuned RTX 2070, meaning that you're able to take full advantage of the GPU. Inside the Helios 700 is an Intel Core i7-9750H, Nvidia RTX 2070, 16GB of DDR4 memory, and a 512GB SSD. On the back of the housing is an HDMI 2.0 port, a DisplayPort connector, and the charging port. On the left side are the mic and headphone hookups, as well as two more USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports and an Ethernet jack. On the right side, you'll find a USB-C Thunderbolt port, a USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 port, and a standard USB 3.1 Gen 2 port. Put simply, you can customize the amount of pressure, beginning from 0.3mm to a full keypress, before the WASD key inputs are triggered. The WASD keys are MagForce keys with linear switch technology. When the keyboard is closed, the thickness of the Helios 700 puts my wrists at an awkward, uncomfortable angle. But I actually like the section of the Helios that drops down when it's undocked, as it gives me a place to rest my wrist while gaming. Using the trackpad when the keyboard is undocked is awkward, and something you won't want to do for extended periods of time. Just above the keyboard are shortcut buttons that cycle through various overclocking modes and settings.

There's a dedicated RGB section above the keyboard, that shows off the cooling system.Īcer's PredatorSense software lets you adjust the lighting of this cooling space along with each individual key. Not only does it look pretty damn cool, but undocking the keyboard will also trigger overclocking. But things get interesting when you slide out the HyperDrift keyboard and the trackpad drops down to meet the desk. It reminds me of the blocky Dell laptop I had in high school in the early 2000s, and that's not a compliment. Outside of its size, the Helios 700's design looks basic at first glance.

Title=More%20Expert%20Tech%20Roundups&type=articles%2Cvideos&tags=tech-roundup&count=3&columnCount=6&theme=article The IPS display measures 17.3-inches, and has a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080, with a fast refresh rate of 144Hz. If you do want to carry it around, keep in mind it measures 16.93 x 11.77 x 1.64-inches and weighs a staggering 10.6-pounds - you’ll need to find a good laptop backpack to carry this beast. Find a place to put this beast of a laptop and leave it there. Enough so that you won’t want to lug it around your home, let alone around campus. Let's get it out of the way: The Helios 700 is big and heavy. If you really want to go big, then there's an eye-watering $3,999 model that comes with an Intel Core i9, RTX 2080, 32GB of memory and a 1TB SSD. The $2,500 config gains you an RTX 2080, and as far as I can see, that's the only difference.
